Gravel (Saral) and Kundu Kal from TKR Building Materials, Tenkasi

Building Material in Tenkasi

Gravel (Saral) and Kundu Kal

TKR Building Materials supplies gravel, known locally as saral or saral kraval, and kundu kal, the rounded stone used under foundations, across Tenkasi district. Gravel is the standard material for filling and compacting the plinth, basement and floor beds before concrete. Kundu kal is packed as a soling layer below footings and plain concrete so the load spreads onto firm ground. Both are sold per unit and delivered by tipper from our yard at Ilanji.

  • Gravel for plinth, basement and floor-bed filling
  • Kundu kal for foundation soling and rubble packing
  • Clean, well-draining material that compacts firmly
  • Combined loads with blue metal and M-Sand

What gravel (saral) is used for

Saral is a natural gravelly soil with a mix of small stones and coarse sand. It is laid in layers inside the plinth and basement, watered and compacted to form a stable, well-drained base for the floor concrete. Because it does not hold water like clay, it reduces settlement and dampness in the floor. A typical house in Tenkasi needs several units of gravel to raise the floor level to plinth height.

What kundu kal is used for

Kundu kal are rounded stones, usually 100 to 150 mm, laid as a packed soling course under footings, plinth beams and plain cement concrete beds. The stones are hand-packed tightly, the gaps filled with gravel or sand, then rammed. Soling spreads the load over soft or filled ground and gives a firm, level base for the concrete above. Engineers specify it on most sites in the district where the ground near tanks and fields is not hard rock.

How much do you need?

Gravel: multiply the plinth area by the depth of fill, add 20 to 25% for compaction and divide by 100 to get units. Kundu kal: the soling area in square feet multiplied by the soling thickness in feet, usually 0.5 to 0.75 ft, divided by 100. Share your plan and plinth height and we will work out the units and schedule the trips so filling does not stall the site.

Gravel & Kundu Kal Questions

Customers Often Ask

As of 18 October 2026, gravel (saral kraval) is ₹2,600 per unit and kundu kal is ₹4,500 per unit, delivered in a 4-unit load within our delivery area. Rates are revised with market changes, so confirm on +91 76676 66264 before ordering.
Gravel is the cheapest material that compacts well and drains, so it is the right choice for bulk filling. M-Sand and blue metal cost roughly twice as much per unit and are better kept for concrete and masonry. Blue metal 40 mm is sometimes used as a top layer under the floor bed.
Our tippers carry up to four units per trip, and the published per-unit rate assumes a full 4-unit load. For large fills we schedule multiple trips in a day.
