Courtallam is the closest town to our yard. The Ilanji stock point sits on the Tenkasi - Shencottai road just a few minutes from the Main Falls junction, so a Courtallam order is usually loaded and on site within the hour. Resort and lodge work here is mostly RCC-framed with hollow or solid block walls, so the common order is M-Sand, 20 mm blue metal, cement and TMT for the frame, followed by blocks and P-Sand. Hill-side plots need more kundu kal and gravel for levelling and retaining walls than flat sites in Tenkasi town. Water tankers are in demand at lodges during peak season when the municipal supply runs short.
Season and weather
Courtallam gets heavy spray and rain during the south-west monsoon season when the falls are in full flow, and again in the north-east monsoon. Cement must be stored off the ground and covered on site, and we schedule steel deliveries close to the pour so bars do not sit in the damp.
